Peter Siegel
As the country’s leading integrator of digital imaging systems for collection-based materials, the Division of Cultural Heritage helps institutions develop comprehensive solutions and strategies that preserve and extend the reach of their collections. This specialized area of Digital Transitions is headed by Peter Siegel, who has served the not for profit community for over 15 years.
Before starting the Division of Cultural Heritage for Digital Transitions, Peter was the Head of Digital Imaging and Photography for Harvard Art Museums and Fine Arts Library. Here he planned and implemented the modernization of the entire imaging lab and photography services department by designing and integrating image capture technologies for image creation, management and permanence. His analysis of the available technologies ensured integration with the larger needs of Harvard Universities needs while meeting the daily goals of the Harvard University Art Museums and Fine Arts Library.
Before his employment at Harvard, Peter was the Director of Digital Imaging at the American Museum of Natural History. Peter was responsible for all aspects of the Digital Imaging program and created an image database containing over 270,000 high-resolution images from Collections, Catalogue Ledgers, and Archives. He also incorporated and designed digital imaging technologies to integrate other museum collections.
Peter, also an avid art photographer, taught at New York University in a lecture series focused on designing digital imaging databases. Peter's background and experience makes him the logical choice as Director of the Division of Cultural Heritage. Here at Digital Transitions, his vast knowledge has enabled him to help create the new DT RG3040 Reprographic System. This modular system is designed to meet the highest demands that cultural institutions face and is the only solution that speaks to the concerns of quality, reliability, safety, versatility and speed.
