Overview of Presentations
Behind the Scenes: DSLR vs Medium Format
Presented by Jaime DeMarco
Initially educated in traditional film photography techniques, Jaime DeMarco knew there was something missing when he began shooting digitally with a 35mm DSLR. Learn why Jaime made the transition to medium format over nine years ago and how this transition has improved the quality of his photography and his workflow.
For Jaime there was no looking back once he tested out a medium format digital solution. These files were finally giving him the dynamic range and resolution that he was used when he was shooting medium and large format film. No longer would he have to settle and spend hours in post trying to correct for what he was not capturing or having to adjust his lighting to conform to the limitations of 35mm DSLR. With the incorporation of Capture One, Jaime has created an optimized workflow that enables him to deliver the highest quality images expeditiously.
Jaime will discuss the results of a side-by-side comparison he performed during a recent fashion shoot using with the Phase One IQ series and 645DF system, as well as some of the most popular 35mm DSLR cameras and latest lighting systems. Jaime will explain and more importantly SHOW the Phase One IQ difference on screen and on large printed examples so you can see for yourself the advantages of medium format.

Branding and Marketing for Commercial Photographers:
Wonderful Machine will offer insight into the basics of branding and marketing yourself to appeal to commercial and editorial clients. They will discuss how to create a cohesive brand and photographic identity, including promotional materials you will need and tips on how to organize and edit your work and offer advice about how to identify and reach clients who are appropriate for you. Other topics covered will include direct mail, phone calls and client meetings, source books, list services, SEO and social networking to promote your photography.
Pricing and Negotiating:
We each work hard to find new clients and are elated when someone shows interest in our work. But that elation often turns to panic when we’re asked to submit an estimate for a project. How do you structure an estimate, what are the line items, what is the client expecting, how do you look professional? Creating a professional estimate is not an exercise in black magic and secret sauce. Wonderful Machine will demystify the estimating process by breaking it down into a logical structure. Come and hear a pro talk about the entire process of building a professional estimate.
