Let's Talk Rapid Capture Workshop

SmithsonianThe Digitization Program Office (DPO) along with the Smithsonian Photographers Information Network (SPIN) have joined together to present a workshop on digital rapid capture. We are excited to announce that Peter Siegel, Director of the DT Division of Cultural Heritage, will be on the panel and presenting at this event.

 

Synopsis:

This workshop will:
A) demonstrate examples of image rapid capture processes available from the world outside of SI as well as
B) present & discuss some of the challenges SI staff face as they build workable image rapid capture solutions for themselves.

Where: Freer/Sackler Gallery Meyer Auditorium

Who: Open to all Smithsonian Staff


Audience members just beginning to delve into rapid capture will get an introductory look at the current state of affairs. More experienced staff members will get a look at some cutting edge processes & equipment.

The workshop will begin with SI staff (Keri Thomspon, SIL; Karen Weiss, AAA; Hugh Talman, NMAH) presenting their unique experiences with rapid capture at SI. They will touch on the types of rapid capture they do (film/print scanning, 2D fine art capture, document scanning) and/or the processes surrounding their workflows.

After lunch industry pros Don Williams (Founder, Image Science Associates), Peter Siegel (Director, Digital Transitions) and Peter Krogh (Photographer and author of "The DAMS Book") will present cutting edge processes and solutions for image rapid capture.

After the presentations there will be an open Q&A session for the panel.
